5 Locations for Music Video Shoots in OKC

Choosing the perfect location to shoot your music video can be challenging, especially if you are shooting your music video on a budget. There are several soundstages available to rent around the city such as Prairie Surf Studios as well as warehouse studio locations like 1984 Studios that you can rent or barter to secure if you have the budget.

We know what it’s like to shoot on a shoestring budget. That’s why we have compiled this list of free locations where you can shoot your next music video in Oklahoma City.

Downtown Oklahoma City

Downtown Oklahoma City is booming by day but at night and during the weekends the business area is a ghost town. If you are shooting a music video at night, hit the sidewalks around Oklahoma City to shoot walking cowboy shots or a Abbey Road-inspired crosswalk clip. You also pick up a lot of interesting B-Roll in the area if you know where to look. Try the areas around Leadership Square for some interesting architectural B-Roll.

Please keep in mind that there may be areas in downtown OKC that you are prohibited from shooting in. Always check on legality before you shoot or be prepared to run and gun. This is not legal advice.

Public Parks in Oklahoma City

There are plenty of public parks and skate parks where you may be able to capture some interesting footage for your music video. Some examples are Scissortail Park, the Myriad Gardens, and Will Rogers Gardens. There are also plenty of lakes in the area that could make interesting locations like Lake Overholser and Lake Hefner

Again, make sure to get consent waivers from anyone that ends up in your music video unless you have nothing to lose. Again, not legal advice.

Venues in Oklahoma City

Some venues in Oklahoma City will allow you to shoot your music video while your band performs on-stage. Email the booking manager for the venue, or better yet, visit them in person and ask if they will let you rent the venue during their closed hours or check to see how they feel about shooting a music video while giving a live performance to an audience.

The booking manager will let you know what their protocol is and if this is something they’ll allow but most venues have no problem accommodating local musicians and are typically regarded as one of the biggest supporters of local musicians and their dreams. With that being said, it’s always better to ask first before planning to shoot.

Some smaller venues in Oklahoma City that we love include The 51st Street Speakeasy and the Blue Note. Resonant Head is another fantastic venue that may be open to serving as a music video shoot location. If you’re not sure, it never hurts to ask!

House Parties and DIY Venues in Oklahoma City

Check with your friends and see who is open to hosting a house party. House parties make a great backdrop for a music video and your friends will probably be open to performing as extras in your music video.

There are also several DIY venues in the area that may be open to serving as your film location. Email the manager to inquire about availability and rental fees. Some examples are The Sanctuary in Oklahoma City and the Resonator in Norman, Oklahoma.

Parking Lots in Oklahoma City

Parking Lots can make a good location for a music video, especially if you are wanting to use more than one location. You can consider parking garages in Midtown OKC, Downtown OKC, or the one at Penn Square Mall. Look for parking lots of closed businesses.

Again, please check into the legality of shooting in the parking lot, or better yet, speak with the business owner about shooting on their site. We are not responsible for any legal transgressions here.
